The Grey Gardens estate in East Hampton looks nothing like it used to. Any reminders of its years of decay have been wiped away, and the mansion and grounds are the picture of perfection.
Even so, the home will always be best remembered as the decrepit estate where the reclusive Edith Beale, and her daughter of the same name, lived in isolation and squalor.
The cult classic 1975 documentary "Grey Gardens" brought viewers into the eccentric lives of Big Edie and Little Edie, the aunt and cousin of Jackie O, as they lived together separated from the world and surrounded by filth and squalor in their formerly grand estate.

But after Big Edie's death, Little Edie was finally ready to fly the coop, and in 1979 she sold her infamous home to writer Sally Quinn and her husband, Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee. But there was one condition: The home could not be torn down, but instead restored to its former glory, according to 6sqft.com.
Bradlee and Quinn spent years painstakingly repairing the home and its 1.7 acre property, and now, the exquisitely polished seven-bedroom mansion, famous gardens, tennis court, and pool are for rent… for $175,000 a month.
The property, which is available for a September 2015-July 2016 lease, has actually been renting for $250,000 a month during the summer, making this rate new rate quite a deal.
