Before now, boatels have been hulking monstrosities, at best, and watery gimmicks, at worst. In any case, they're largely eyesores. And a Serbian design studio has something to say about that.
Drawing inspiration from the sleek pod hotels that dot cosmopolitan landscapes, the studio, Salt & Water, has compartmentalized the rooms that, together, would make up a traditional boatel. In doing so, each "room" - they're more like vessels, really - comes with a personalized sense of privacy and a host of other amenities.
These vessels can sleep 2 to 4 people and comes with a small stove, a storage space, two double beds, and, to alleviate your concern, a bathroom. Outside, up front, there's a wooden deck and some cushioned seating for lounging. In the back, there's a staircase that leads to the controls.
Yep, you can drive this thing. Don't except to go too fast, though - it's modeled after a catamaran, and can only go as fast as one. But if a little natural venture is what you seek with your hotel, this may be the place for you.
