The Seventh Largest Home In America Is Practically A Palace

Just when we heard that houses are getting smaller, one comes along to prove us wrong. Construction is under way in Carrollwood, Florida, on a lavish, palace-like, single-family home - and the final product will be 85,000 square feet.

In addition to 11 bedrooms and 12 bathrooms, the home will have a Hindu temple, a replica of the Taj Mahal carved in rock, and garage space for 20 to 30 cars. With a 450-foot-long pool and an ornate fountain, the massive structure looks like it could be a lakeside resort.

The owner is cardiologist, businessman, and philanthropist Dr. Kiran Patel, who runs several healthcare companies in Florida. He says he plans for his three adult children to live at the estate with their families. So, despite its over-the-top features, the house will have only one kitchen, because that's where the family convenes.

Rob Glisson, of ROJO Architecture, is on the team that designed the home. He says that while the seven-year project has been challenging and intimidating, it's also incredibly exciting.

"We had never worked on anything so complex and intricate," he told Veranda.com. "It is like dressing yourself… one piece at a time."

Patel revealed to 10 News that he hopes to have the home completed by March or April 2016. In the meantime, take a look at the construction progress and renderings of the massive project in the photos below:
