Well-Advised: Mia Jung of Ike Kligerman Barkley

1. Dienst + Dotter

They have the most selective collection of Scandinavian antiques-you can trust them to have the items you are looking for. They also have beautiful glass bowls and vases that I placed throughout the house.

2. Roman Thomas

This small company handcrafts timeless furniture in custom sizes and finishes, all with materials locally sourced from Manhattan and Brooklyn. All of its pieces are clean and simple, and they work well in both traditional and modern interiors. I use them most often for bedside tables, because I always want to have one drawer with an open bottom for books.

3. Yew Tree House Antiques

For fireplace accessories-and for this project I had four sets to furnish-I always go to Yew Tree House Antiques. Without fail they have the best selection. All of the fireplace tools are English, from the 1800s, and the finishes are really beautiful.

4. Elizabeth Eakins, Inc.

The floors in this home are hardwood oak, with a gray wash in the main house and a dark brown wash in the guesthouse. I wanted rugs with a rich texture, but I didn't want them to stand out too much. The rugs I chose at Elizabeth Eakins have gorgeous coloration, and they make everything else work.

5. Stella

This is my go-to spot for linens-they carry every brand you can think of, and they do a lot of custom linens, too. They also source bedding from France and South Asia. The clients from this project fell in love with Stella's products.

6. BDDW

All of the furniture for the girls' bedrooms in this project came from BDDW. To me, a child's room is the most difficult because I don't want to make it too juvenile. I want to make it timeless so that they can grow in it, but there has to be some sweetness. BDDW's furniture has that quality. They use natural materials and have a very simple aesthetic.

7. Virginia di Sciascio

I don't know how I found her, but Virginia di Sciascio has this little shop on the Upper East Side that stocks the very best antique textiles, dating all the way back to the mid-17-century. Whenever I'm there, I'm like a kid in a candy store. It's where I go when I need something extra-special for pillows or throws. It's open by appointment only,

8. Cocobolo Design

This is a small gallery in the Lower East Side that specializes in ceramic art. We had some niches to fill, so I commissioned artists from the gallery to make ceramics in the sizes that I needed. I have also gone there in the past for a custom ceramic tabletop.

9. Urban Electric

Finding the perfect lighting for a space always comes toward the end of my design process. At that point, the lighting has to be really specific, so I do a lot of custom orders. Urban Electric has a huge selection, as well as a great custom department where you can tweak the design, size, or finish of any of their fixtures. For this project, they had a pendant that I really liked, but I needed sconces. I drew a sketch for them, and we went back and forth to figure out what worked best-both aesthetically and functionally-until it was just right.

10. Richard Smith

For this project, I worked with the decorative painter Richard Smith. He created the special room with blue distressed walls, next to the living room. The room is so small, but it took a long time to figure out-I wanted to create a finish that was layer upon layer of color, with a hint of each underlying layer visible. Every time I've worked with him, we've designed in a very different style-a glitzy French trompe l'oeil room for one project, murals in a mountain house for another, and so on. He always understands what I'm trying to do. It is always such a pleasant surprise to see the rooms he has painted for the first time.
