The Most Expensive Wine In The World Costs More Than A Year's Rent

True wine connoisseurs wouldn't bat an eyelash at wine that costs hundreds, even thousands of dollars per bottle. But $15,195 for a relatively unknown variety? That's bound to raise some eyebrows.

Wine-Searcher.com recently released their list of the World's Top 50 Most Expensive Wines, and the top spot went to the1985 Richebourg Grand Cru, crafted by winemaker Henri Jayer.

According to Time.com, the Richebourg's placement came as a surprise to many experts who were expecting the more famous Romanee-Conti Grand Cru - produced by the Domaine de la Romanee-Conti vineyard and priced at $13,314 - to come out on top. Though both wines come from Burgandy in France, the Richebourg's astonishing $15,195 per bottle price tag made it unbeatable this year.

Wine Searcher's ranking compares the list price of more than 7 million wines, from 55,000 wine merchants. This year, 40 of the top 50 wines were made in Burgundy, France. Check out their site to see the full list.
