Live Like A 19th-Century VIP At This Historic Colorado Castle

Castles may not be as commonplace in Colorado as they are in other areas of the world, but one in particular has bewitched the Aspen-area since the 19th-Century.

Redstone Castle, the 42-room estate built for John Cleveland Osgood, a coal mining industrialist, is on the market for $7.499 million, according to Curbed.

The castle sits among the mountains of Redstone, Colorado, a village Osgood himself created, on an expansive153 acres of land. In addition to the 24,000-square-foot main home, the grounds also include a gamekeepers's lodge, greenhouse, and carriage house.

During its heyday, the estate played host to a series of well-known guests, including Teddy Roosevelt, John D. Rockefeller, and J.P. Morgan, who surely enjoyed the home's opulent interiors and amenities. In particular, the game room and bar, which was originally reserved for gentlemen guests.

The castle also comes complete with a library accented with green leather walls and shelves, a great hall with soaring 18-foot ceilings, and a French music parlor (where the women would retire while the men were in the game room).

Guests have previously been welcome to visit the estate for tours, but only time will tell if that tradition will continue with the new owners. In the meantime, take a closer look at the property in the photos below.
