This Brilliant Device Will Completely Change The Way You Garden

Let's face it: We aren't all born with a green thumb, and it's a skill much harder to cultivate than top gardeners let on. But Jason Aramburu, an ecologist and garden enthusiast, is here to help.

Aramburu, with the help of fuseproject founder, Yves Béhar, has designed a solar-powered device that takes the guessing out of gardening. When placed into soil, the Edyn smart sensor measures moisture, pH, temperature, humidity, light levels, and nutrient levels. With this info, the device alerts you as to when and how much to water your foliage, and what your soil needs to improve plant growth. It can also help novice gardeners to select the right vegetation for their environment so your garden always looks its best.

In other words: Genius.

When available, the sensor's attachment device, the Edyn Water Valve, will be able to water your garden for you--no timers or switches needed. Plus, the valve will know when to spray at full blast or just at a light drip, and could help regulate water usage during times of drought. (A nice alternative for those who aren't ready to adopt xeriscaping, another gardening trend.)

What began as a Kickstarter project launched by a Princeton graduate has already found its way onto the shelves of mega-retailer Home Depot -- a rarity for crowd-funded products -- and soon it'll find its way into backyards everywhere.
