What is an ovoscope: how to make a device with your own hands

Eggs shine through at the time of detection of defects in them. It is required for culinary purposes and for breeding chicks. By sending them to the incubator, it is advisable to make sure if there is an embryo there, to find out how it develops, and if necessary to reject the useless, for example, two-yielding.

For radiography, a simple device is used - ovoskop, which is easy to build with your own hands in 5 minutes. There are many options for such a homemade device. Depending on the materials and skills that you have, it remains to choose the right one and proceed to the construction.

Purpose and types of device

Ovoskop used with the following goals:

  • in farms to check the status of the embryo;
  • in cooking to determine the freshness of eggs and their suitability for consumption;
  • in trade to determine the quality and subsequent sale.
Its action is based on a simple principle - the x-ray of an egg with an ordinary lamp.

Did you know? To have eggs, not necessarily the presence of a rooster in the hen house. It is needed when eggs with embryos from which chicks hatch are required. In addition, he plays an important social role in the chicken family, it is not for nothing that the unmanageable and squabbled female collective is called the "chicken coop."

Ovoskopov are miniature, designed for x-raying at one time one egg, and more solid - for a dozen or more. They differ in size and weight.

Ovoskop design There are three types:

  1. Hammer. Got its name because of the appearance, resembling a hammer. Powered by mains or battery. It should be brought to the object and enlighten it. The light source must be sufficiently powerful, while not heating the shell, so you should prefer the LED lamp. Such a device is convenient because when working with it you do not need to remove the egg from the tray.
  2. Horizontal. The stream of light is directed upwards from the source located at the bottom. The hole is in the side wall. The shell does not overheat, but the egg needs to be removed, it is possible to shine through one by one.
  3. Vertical. It looks like the previous device, with the difference that the hole is located on top.For good radiography without overheating the shell, energy-saving light bulbs are used more often. It is possible to enlighten with their help from one egg to a whole tray, without taking them out from there.
Home models usually allow you to explore one object, industrial - a few.

Important! Care should be taken to use devices in which the lamps are heated. They can overheat the shell and harm the embryo.

How to make an ovoskop with your own hands

In a large farm, it is advisable to have an industrial ovoscope capable of simultaneously detecting a decent batch of eggs. They are purchased in specialized stores. But you can make an egg ovoscope with your own hands, it is easy. To do this, use the materials at hand and the light source - a light bulb with a cartridge and cord.

Important! For the family budget it is less burdensome, and for the environment it is more useful if people start using objects again, wherever possible, rather than throwing them away and buying new things. In our case, it can be cans, cardboard boxes, various containers, residues after repairs, etc.

From the can

A can - secondary raw materials, before throwing it away, think about whether it is better to make an ovoscope out of it.

Breed chickens with an incubator that can be made independently.

For an ovoskop you will need a can of 20-30 centimeters high, a cartridge with a cord and an energy-saving lamp, a knife. Procedure following:

  • The working position of the can in the future device - cut the lid down, the surviving bottom up.
  • Using a knife, make a hole in the side of the can, departing from the bottom about 1/3 of the height. The hole must match the diameter of the cartridge so that it can be inserted there.
  • Embed the cartridge in its designated hole, strengthen, screw the light bulb.
  • At the top of the future device, that is, in the surviving bottom, cut an oval smaller than the size of the egg so that it does not fall into the hole, but is kept on the surface.
  • Put the device on the table, turn it on, put an egg on top of the hole.

From the box

A cardboard box is a very good piece for an ovoscope. It is convenient because with a suitable size you can make several holes for simultaneous x-raying.

Proper feeding of chicks and goslings from the first days of life is very important.

To make it, you will need a cardboard shoe box, a piece of foil, a cartridge with a cord, an energy-saving light bulb (not heating), a knife or scissors. Procedure for the manufacture of the device:

  • In the lid of the box, make an oval hole for the egg, one or more, of such a size that it does not fall inward.
  • Provide a smaller side wall of the box with a slot into which the wire will pass.
  • Cover the bottom of the box with foil for light reflection.
  • Insert the cartridge with a light bulb in the box so that the light bulb is located in the middle of the box, place the wire in the slot made for it.
  • Cover the structure with a lid, turn on the light bulb, put an egg on the hole.

From tin sheet

The ovoscope is easy to build if you have a half-millimeter sheet of tin, 10-mm plywood, a cartridge with a cord, a light bulb. For this need to:

  • Make a cylinder with a height of 300 millimeters and a diameter of 130 mm. Fasten the edges with welding, "lock" or rivet.
  • Cut a plywood circle corresponding to the diameter of the manufactured cylinder.
  • Fasten a cartridge with a wire on it, screw in a light bulb.
  • At the level of the bulb in the side wall, cut a square with a side of 60 millimeters.
  • To produce another tube of tin, square in cross section, with a side of 60 millimeters, a height of 160 millimeters, fasten its edges.
  • Insert the square tube into the hole made in front of the bulb, fix it.
  • From the remains of plywood cut a square with a side of 60 millimeters, make a hole in it to fit the eggs. Such squares-frames may be several for eggs of different sizes. Insert the resulting frame into the square side tube.
  • Turn on the device, bring the egg to the frame.

Did you know? It happens that the egg is not one yolk, but two or even more. The Guinness Book of Records registered a 30-cm 5-yolk egg.

With your own hands, you can also make a chicken coop and a drinking bowl for chickens.

Tips and recommendations for using the device

With the help of an ovoskop it is possible to consider both external and internal defects and defects. But in working with the ovoskop should be considered:

  • The shell must be clean so that the survey process is not hampered, and the result was truthful.
  • The cracked ovoscope shows how dark spots and stripes are, the air chamber should be static, and the yolk can move, but not touch the walls from the inside.
  • It is advisable to avoid using halogen bulbs because of their ability to heat. Overheating of the shell is not allowed. It can lead to undesirable consequences. If it was not possible to pick up another light source, the halogen lamp should be used for no more than five minutes, after which it should be turned off and allowed to cool completely.
  • The light bulb is recommended to use a power of at least 100 watts.
  • The result will be more effective if you use an additional reflective material.

Did you know? Eggs come in three colors: white, cream and brown. Color has nothing to do with quality, only indicates the color of the hen that laid it.

How to enlighten an egg without an ovoscope

If you need to enlighten an egg, but there is no ovoscope or something happens to it, you can completely do without it. True, this method is not well suited for use in large enterprises, but it is convenient if there are doubts about the quality.

In the sheet black cardboard you need to cut an oval slightly smaller than the size of an egg.Bring this cardboard to any burning light at a distance of 30 centimeters and, using it as a partition, bring the object of the survey to the hole.

Ovoskop is a useful thing that is sometimes needed in any household and which is easy to build with your own hands in five minutes. Or spend a little more time and make a more stationary device, if you need it all the time.
