Small but significant victory for organic producers in Ukraine

The development of the organic sector of Ukraine made a positive step forward yesterday, when the Committee on Agrarian Policy recommended the Verkhovna Rada to support the draft law in the first reading. It is not yet clear whether currently the adoption of the draft law is merely a formality, or it can still be rejected by the Verkhovna Rada. After the meeting, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Olga Trofimtseva, said that "so far, this is a small victory, but if the parliament passes the law, it will be a big step for the development of the Ukrainian organic sector." These events are small but important for the development and future of the country, which are often forgotten against the background of negative news about Ukraine.

The development of the organic market is a priority for the government and an agricultural development strategy known as "3 + 5". The main step is to improve the regulatory framework for organic production, processing and labeling in order to bring it in line with the legislation and the requirements of the European Union.
