Farmers producing milk in Europe staged a protest because of discontent associated with the fall in tariffs for their own products. During the protest, they sprayed tons of powdered milk, as a result of which the EU headquarters, where the ministers of agriculture negotiated on the first day of the week, turned into a “snow-covered” room.
The price of dairy products has decreased significantly in the EU, which has led to the ruin of many farmers. At the end of November, the European Commission decided to put up for resale the share of supplies of powdered milk, which had been accumulating for more than a year in the EU member states. This milk was developed at the stage of maximum price drop, when the EU bought up farmers' products in the EU. The European Commission promised that it would not sell the accumulated supplies, however later “signals about the growth of the dairy market” decided to sell dry milk. It was this decision that so outraged the farmers.
