A New Exhibit Takes You Inside The World - And Home - Of Frida Kahlo

If a colorful afternoon at the Mexico City home of artist Frida Kahlo is your idea of a weekend well spent, you're in luck. A new exhibit exploring her connection to the natural world - through her art as well as her home and garden - is opening at the New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) on May 16, and running through November 1, 2015.

The "Frida Kahlo: Art, Garden, Life" exhibit includes more than a dozen of the iconic artist's original works, as well as a gorgeous reimagining of her Mexico City home, "Casa Azul," or blue house, and the garden and studio she created there.

According to the NYBG, key elements of the Casa Azul, including the native and exotic plants that Kahlo kept in her garden, the vivid blue walls, and folkloric décor, will all be present within the exhibit, in order to give visitors greater insight into Kahlo's life and, especially, her deep connection to nature and the world around her.

The Kahlo exhibit is the latest in a series focused on the life and times of the late artist. On May 14, the Michael Hoppen Gallery in London debuted a photo installation shot by Ishiuchi Miyako, which features the fashion items and personal belongings Kahlo kept at Casa Azul. The exhibit, simply called "Frida," runs through June 12.
