Churchill Downs Is Getting A Luxury Makeover Before The Next Kentucky Derby

Kentucky Derby regulars are in for a whole new experience come 2016.

Churchill Downs, the track that hosts the annual horse racing event, is currently undergoing an $18 million makeover that focuses on the space's elite seating areas.

The seating for premium guests will go from 1,886 to 2,660 spots, according to Curbed, and VIP guests will have access to new lounges, bars, balconies and even a chef's station. And while the race has long been a magnet for celebrities and dignitaries, the luxurious makeover is sure to draw in even more high-profile guests.

According to CBS affiliate WLKY, the upgrades are the latest in a series of improvements made to the track over the past 6 years, totaling over $69 million. Kevin Flanery, the president of Churchill Downs told the station each upgrade will improve not only the track itself, but the whole region.

"We remain steadfast in making these significant and vital investments to make certain that Churchill Downs, the Kentucky Derby, Kentucky Oaks and everyday racing remain major economic engines for our city, state and region," he said.
