Elvis's Aloha From Hawaii Guitar Fails To Sell At Auction

Elvis Presley didn't just have a bunch of hit songs and movies to his name, he also had a ton of personal belongings, apparently.

Just four months after the last Graceland auction, the King's former estate hosted another sale on January 7, 2016 - in celebration of Presley's birthday on the 8th.

This time around, the auction included a variety of artifacts from Elvis's life, including personal instruments, clothing, accessories, and even handwritten letters. Most notably, the lot also included the1969 Custom Gibson Ebony Dove guitar he played onstage at his legendary Aloha From Hawaii concert.

And although the estimated sale price for the guitar was between $300,000 and $500,000, it ended up not selling at all. Commercial Appeal reports that bidding did reach $270,000 but did not meet the reserve price, and was removed from the auction.

On the other end of the spectrum, several items from the auction ended up exceeding the estimated price, including a pair of Presley's "TCB" Nautic Neostyle prescription sunglasses, which brought in $27,500, much more than the $12,000 - $15,000 they were expected to sell for.

Don't feel too sorry for the famous guitar though, Graceland has already hosted four auctions since 2014, so it will surely be up for sale again soon, most likely in August in recognition of Elvis's death.
