The Four Seasons Restaurant Furniture Is Heading To Auction

New York's Four Seasons Restaurant may be closing, but you can still snag a table.

The restaurant is scheduled to serve its last meal on July 16th; just 10 days later, Forbes reports Wright Auctions will sell the restaurant's furniture on site. The approximately 500 lots include everything from the Mies van der Rohe Barcelona chairs to Tulip tables by Eero Saarinen, as well as the restaurant's pots and pans. As NBC points out, the restaurant epitomizes sleek mid-century design

Esquire coined the term "power lunch" to describe the scene at the iconic spot, which opened in 1959. Designed by architect Philip Johnson, the restaurant garnered a reputation for hosting not only business lunches, but also some of high society's most elite events, including President John F. Kennedy's 45th birthday party, when Marilyn Monroe famously sang "Happy Birthday, Mister President," according to Business Insider. It has played host to the likes of President Barack Obama, the Dalai Lama, Princess Margaret, Prince Harry, and Elton John in recent years, among countless others.

Located inside the equally iconic Seagram Building on East 52nd Street, Bloomberg Pursuits reports co-owners Alex von Bidder and Julian Niccolini fully intend to move the Four Seasons to a new space "about five minutes walking distance" from its current location sometime next year. Seagram Building owner Aby Rosen decided not to renew the Four Seasons' lease last year, and has plans to open a new restaurant in the space.
