State support for small and medium-sized farmers will allow Ukraine to increase agricultural production by almost 10 million tons per year, said Taras Kutovoy, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food. According to him, the Ministry declares that there are agricultural small and medium agricultural enterprises that should dominate the structure of state support. Thanks to support, farmers will come to the level of profitability of large holdings. According to the minister, last year in Ukraine, 66 million tons of grain were produced, which was a record high, almost 6 million tons more compared to the results in 2015.
Farmers cannot really compete with large holdings - large players have a wide coverage of high-performance equipment, modern technologies, etc. But farmers can be successful in producing alternative crops or organic production. Large companies will not work in such sectors, Kutovoy added.
